Dog-friendly apart hotels in Liverpool City Centre.
2020 has been an interesting year for Citystop. They launched their independent aparthotel business in November 2019, just five months before the country was placed on lockdown. Like most hotels in the UK, they saw their occupancy rate fall to below 5% almost overnight.
“We could have closed but being a new business we took the decision to remain open during the lockdown period, offering free stays for NHS staff. It was an incredibly difficult time for us as a new business, but I’m proud of our team and the way they pulled together” says Nick who has been GM of Citystop since their opening.
Citystop’s aparthotels are located in some of the most popular locations in Liverpool, with three properties in the Ropewalks area and one in the business district. Their unique, modern furnished rooms have full kitchens, which make them an ideal option for holidays as well as corporate stays. But with so many hotels competing in the city, they’re determined to be different and stand out from the crowd.
“Coming out of lockdown, we’re even more passionate about supporting other independent businesses in our community. We’ve partnered with some fantastic local restaurants like Carlisi and Bakchich to provide a Bed & Breakfast offer for our customers and a local driver service for those customers who would like to make a tour of the city. We found our great local cleaning service Bowers through Instagram, and our photographer Mick Ryan was recommended to us through a local hospitality networking group. We want to work with other local, independent businesses with great reputations.”
Citystop also want to provide a unique experience for their customers. “We like to think that we give our customers an insider’s view of Liverpool. We use our social media to highlight new exhibitions, great food, and fun things to do around the city. We want our customers to have the best experience they can in the city, whether they are here for business or for a holiday. We want to show them all the great things Liverpool has to offer.”
They also have a unique selling point Nick explains, as they’re one of the only dog-friendly aparthotels in the city and welcome four-legged visitors to their Wood Street apartments. “We’re currently partnering with a few local businesses to offer dog-friendly vacations. We can recommend dog-friendly restaurants and bars to our customers, and we even have discounts for activities you can do with your dog!”
Lower occupancy rates during lockdown has given Citystop time to evaluate their estate. “We have four buildings located in the City Centre. Our property on Trueman Street is a Georgian townhouse, and is noted as one of the finest surviving examples of an original Merchant’s House. It’s important to us that we preserve the heritage of these buildings and care for them well, so maintenance and refurbishment have been extremely high on our agenda during the lockdown period. The safety of our buildings is always at the top of our list.”
In light of Covid-19, safety became even more critical to their success, and Citystop were one of the first hotels to sign up to Foursquare’s Covid Safe scheme. All four of their buildings are now certified through the scheme. “We know that safety is the most important thing to our customers and our staff. We want to make sure we’re taking every step we can to protect them from risks, so we carried out risk assessments and put measures into place to ensure that we have every eventuality covered.”
“With great confidence we can say you’re safe to stay with Citystop!”
