LEAF began in 2007, as a small independent tea shop. Their goal was to bring quality loose-leaf tea to Liverpool. Their very first venue opened in Autumn 2010, LEAF on Bold Street.
After five fabulous years establishing their venue on Bold Street, they wanted to bring their ethos of tea, music and overall good times to other cities. It only seemed fitting that Manchester would be next.
After a period looking for a venue which would match the experience at Bold St, they came across the former CUBE Gallery and RIBA building on Portland Street and immediately fell in love with its history, charm and neighbourhood.
After a lot of love, dedication and careful renovation work – LEAF on Portland Street provides the same great quality food, drinks, music and good times as its Liverpool counterparts.
We had the pleasure of speaking to Linda Neliusa [General Manager of LEAF on Portland Street] about her journey within hospitality so far…
“I started at LEAF (Portland Street) two years ago as a team member, this was my first job working in hospitality. As I gained more experience, I was able to become supervisor. From there, the opportunity of duty manager came up, this was a great way to prove I can handle being placed in the deep end – in a sink or swim scenario. Having impressed, I then moved into an acting and then assistant general manager role. Fortunately, in March this year, the hard work paid off as I was made permanent general manager.”
[Talking about the ethos of LEAF] “LEAF is a fantastic place to work, as they [owners of LEAF] invest in the creativity of younger people. The company message of wanting to create memories, creating moments for friends and family alike is something that I want to be a part of – To use my creative flair in delivering this ideology to people”
We also spoke to Linda about her thoughts on the Manchester food/drink scene, and what successes/challenges the venue faces…
“[The Manchester food/drink scene is] Very diverse, providing everything you need. From Vegan to a plethora of Spanish/tapas restaurants. It’s great as it keeps you on your toes. This even bleeds into the music scene, there are so many venues and places to go that provide positive environments. My goal with LEAF is to ensure we are doing the same – Good food, good times.”
Every day is wonderful, especially when it comes to challenges – I love talking to people, meeting so many people. I always try to go above and beyond for the customers. The moto we have adopted of ‘Where’s there’s tea there’s hope’ is a perfect representation of who we are.”
We asked Linda how she would describe the LEAF menu and her favourite dish…
“If I was to describe our menu in three words, it would have to be original, diverse and creative. If I was to have one thing from the menu for the rest of my life, it would have to be the kale and oyster mushroom crumpet, 100%!”
Speaking to Linda, her passion for working at LEAF was so potent, seeing the excitement in her eyes and how proud she is of the accolades the venue has gained having only been open for 3 years. LEAF on Portland Street provides a very warm, friendly environment for people of all ages and for many occasions. Hosting wedding and birthday parties, or simply making for a great venue for catching up with loved ones.

We’re delighted to work closely with LEAF. Their venue uses two tailored compliance diaries to manage their health and safety, food safety and day-to-day business operations.
We deliver two levels of food safety. The 1-day Level 2 course is an introduction for food handlers. The 3-day Level 3 course is for supervisors and managers in a catering environment.
Situated right in the centre of the Liverpool business district, One Fine Day offers a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
